Traffic on the road took 715 people’s deaths as stated in a report by ARY News. Among the dead were 562 males, 80 females, and 73 children. Furthermore, 7 621 people got injured and adversely affected in these mishaps, and it has increased from last year’s 6545 people. Even though the number of fatal accidents has slightly declined in 2023, pointing to 801, the number of injured people has grown considerably and it proves that stricter measures for the regulation of roads should be taken.
Traffic accidents in Karachi this year have caused the injury of 7,621 people according to ARY News. Among them, 562 men were killed, while 6,290 men were injured. The women also were not spared as 80 of them were killed and 994 others injured. Unfortunately, children were not spared, and 73 of them did not survive, while several hundred were injured. It is now high time that the authorities concerned came forward to take adequate measures to bring down this increasing death rate on roads.
There is a continuing road safety problem, even though 2,037 people died in 2022 – 28 less than in 2023 – 595 more people were injured. As much as poverty and indiscipline continue to rise in society, traffic laws, well-organized roads, and various awareness creation all go hand in hand in preventing accidents and loss of lives.
The Citizens Police Liaison Committee CPLC Karachi documented more than 62,200 crime events that occurred in Karachi during the initial ten months of 2024. This comprised 16,777 cases of mobile phones and over 39,000 cases of motorcycles. Also, 1, 489 car thefts and 478 homicides were recorded.
Kidnapping and extortion cases also played an element in raising the already high statistics. The report included 19 cases of kidnap for ransom and 80 incidents of extortion. The figures also comprised acts of martyrdom of the 11 police officers and the deaths of 105 citizens while resisting robbers.
