Pakistan has made big progress in catching those who steal Electricity and those who don’t pay for it. Recently, they’ve recovered a massive amount of money, Rs84 billion to be exact. This money was collected during a crackdown from March 24 to 31, where officials focused on stopping power theft. There were a huge number of people who were involved in power theft. But with the government’s strict order, the military is catching the thieves who are involved in this theft.

The Government and Military Leaders decided to take serious action against Electricity theft. With these moves they can reduce the losses in the power sector. Since September 1, over 62,000 people have been arrested as part of this campaign. During the recent crackdown, Rs1.50 billion was collected, with Rs1.05 billion coming from cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, and Islamabad.

Another Rs0.599 billion was recovered from areas like Peshawar, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Quetta.In a significant achievement, Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has been declared a city free of power theft and load shedding. This was possible through a special initiative called “Zero-Theft, Zero-Load Shedding.”

Mardan had been facing frequent power cuts, sometimes up to six hours a day. But now, with improved recoveries and an end to power theft, Mardan has become Pakistan’s first city to be free from these issues.

The Secretary of the Power Division, Rashid Langrial, launched The Mardan Model” in Islamabad. This Model ensures that there will be no more power cuts in Mardan if it its free from electricity thefts. This is a huge Achievement not just for Mardan but for the whole Country. They set an example when everyone works together to stop Electricity theft.
