Lahore – Mobile phone service, as per media reports, is expected to remain suspended partially in some parts of Lahore on Monday, September 27, and Tuesday, September 28, given security concerns due to the Urs celebrations of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA).
The decision to suspend mobile phone service partially in Lahore was locked by the Punjab Home Department during a meeting. According to media reports, the decision was taken at the special request of the Lahore police.
The three-day 978th Urs celebrations of Syed Abul Hasan bin Usman Hajveri, known popularly as Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh, began on Sunday in Lahore.

Pir Syed Saeed-ul-Hassan – the Punjab Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs – inaugurated the Urs celebrations by keeping a floral wreath and traditional chadar on the grave of the famous Sufi saint.
Speaking on occasion, the Minister pressed for the need to promote the teachings of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh and other Sufi saints to eradicate extremism and intolerance from the society.
On the other hand, the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of the last prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW), and martyrs of Karbala will be observed with religious zeal and fervor on Monday. Mobile phone services will be off along the route of the mourning procession of Chehlum – which happens 40 days after Ashura.
