A terrible road accident in Iran has claimed the lives of 35 Pakistani pilgrims. The pilgrims were on board a bus that overturned in the city of Yazd, while at least another 15 people were wounded in the crash. The victims were from Pakistan’s Sindh province. They were on their way to the holy city of Qom in Iran for participating in a religious event called Arbaeen. Arbaeen is the fortieth day since the martyrdom of Husayn Ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.

The Accident Was Caused by Break Failure

The bus, it is said, had faults in its brake system before the accident happened. For this reason, the bus overturned. It is really unfortunate that 30 people perished on the spot, with the others a short while later at hospital.

Largest Pilgrimage to Iraq

Nearly two million Shia Muslims participate in 80 km pilgrimage from Najaf to Karbala in Iraq every year. It commemorated the removal of sins of the martyrdom of Husayn Ibn Ali.

The majority of the victims were from Sindh cities, including Larkana, Ghotki, Khairpur, and Kashmore, and at least 11 were women.

Injured in Critical Condition

Those who had sustained minor injuries were taken to a government hospital for treatment. Seven among those injured are stated to be critical.
