All US foreign aid programs to Pakistan ceased following a US decision to freeze global programs for 90 days. The Government of the United States established a ban on funding through an executive order from President Donald Trump which affects essential construction areas of Pakistani development.
The executive mandate blocks support for five projects in the energy sector as well as four economic growth programs and five agricultural development initiatives. The Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation joins four education projects and four health programs and eleven governance-related initiatives among those that face suspension. Every initiative related to democracy operations and human rights has been halted.
US State Department officials have stated that this suspension will be temporary while all programs face new evaluations. The order keeps emergency food assistance operating and extends support to core Middle Eastern allies including Israel and Egypt. Trump defended his decision by saying the United States would terminate its unilaterally generous funding without tangible benefits to American society.
