UAE's Aid to Pakistan: A Comprehensive Partnership of Support and Solidarity

UAE has become the most important friendly country for Pakistan which is supporting Pakistan in all fields from economic help to humanitarian aid and strategic investment. This makes the two nations have a strong social and economic connection since nearly 1.8 Pakistani expatriates are working in the UAE and they have also been sending record remittances of $5.5 billion. This differs from the common business collusion, simple monetary exchange, and business relations which are marked by a strong belief in the cooperation for the common good of both parties as well as the common welfare and safety of the region.

The UAE has been a very good economic ally to Pakistan, especially in the areas of the economy with a specific example being when the economy is down. Enormous loans and funding have made the UAE stand as one of the significant partners in fixing Pakistan’s economy. The UAE Pakistan Assistance Program was initiated in January 2011 with $ 450 million that was raised for the reconstruction of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bajaur, and South Waziristan. This initiative focused on the most sensitive areas such as education, health, construction of infrastructures, and water treatment systems revealing an integrated strategy for economic and social growth. Increased Emirati investment in Pakistani energy, infrastructure, and real estate also provides evidence of the bilateral relations’ stakeholders.

Over the past several years particularly during calamities, the UAE has always been among the first to extend a helping hand to Pakistan. The leadership of the nation has time and again shown an intention of reducing suffering in case of natural disasters. Stringent coordination has been maintained by the UAE Military Relief Force during the disaster management with the help of its commercial partner and some charitable organizations, where Chinook helicopters have been effectively deployed in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan provinces for the rescue and relief operations successfully. When floods and earthquake disasters struck the UAE has responded by offering food and non-food items, medical and other forms of humanitarian assistance, as well as comprehensive humanitarian aid for rebuilding shattered communities, evidencing the country’s humanitarian tradition that is much more than mere diplomatic gesture.
