Speaking to Geo News, PTA chairman direction general Major General Musadik Malik has said that talks are underway with Starlink to bring satellite Internet to Pakistan. At the moment they are still negotiating since Starlink, a company by Elon Musk is looking for a license to offer its services in the country.
Currently, PTA is evaluating some fundamental physical characteristics such as the bandwidth, uplinking, and gateways in an aim to meet the general regulatory requirements. Also, the proposal of Starlink is under consideration under the policy of the National Space Agency. Permission to use Starlink in Pakistan will only be given once the space agency gives its stamp of approval.
If approved, Starlink Pakistan has the potential to bring revolutionary change in connectivity to the untouched and unconnected areas of Pakistan with its satellite connectivity through phased array antennas. It is expected that this move will improve digital literacy and international connection within Pakistan.
