The cost of chicken in Karachi has soared up, causing concerns for the Residents just before Eidul Fitr, People are finding it hard to afford chicken, which is being sold at about Rs800 per kilogram,and way above the government’s set price of Rs666/kg. Despite efforts by the local authorities to ensure fair prices during Ramadan, traders are taking advantage and selling goods at inflated rates. This situation has left Citizens frustrated and helpless. They also pointing out the Government’s failure to control prices and ease the burden on people during the Holy month of Ramadhan
Meanwhile, the weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), has risen by 0.96% for various essential items. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the SPI for the week ending April 4 stood at 326.29 points, showing an increase compared to the previous week. Compared to the same time from last year, there has been a significant rise in prices which is affecting people’s purchasing food and other essentials.

Out of 51 Essential item Prices of 16 have increased 13 have decreased and 22 remained Stable. Some items that became Cheaper include Bananas, Wheat flour, Eggs and LPG. However other Commodities like ladies Sandals, Tomatoes and Gents Sandals have witnessed a Decrease in Prices compared to last Year. This increamnet in Prices affects Various areas of Daily life from Food expenses to Clothing and Transportation Costs.

Authorities need to take Concrete steps to Curb Profiteering and ensure fair Prices for Essential goods. It’s Crucial to implement effective Measures to Stabilize Prices and Provide Relief to the Public Especially during times of Heightened Demand such as Ramadan and Eid Celebrations.
