PHC Suspends HEC Scholarship Test in Kurram Due to Security Concerns

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to stop conducting its scholarship entry test in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the worst security situation in the area. The test, which was planned to take place on December 26, has been suspended for some time due to questions regarding the vulnerability of the security situation in the area.

After reading a petition concerning security issues, the court ordered HEC officials to attend the hearing scheduled for December 31. The court has also directed to shift the centre in case of examination at Sadda for the students of Kurram, Baluchistan and FATA regions for which HEC has reserved 100 seats.

This has come at a time when the KP Cabinet has recently designated Kurram as disaster affected on 23 rd December under CM KPK Ali Amin Gandapur. The decision was taken after sectarian violence that led to more than a hundred deaths, and absolute scarcity of food and medicine. President of faculty’s provincial government and adviser Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif has devised an emergency relief plan in which helicopters are used for providing basic necessities.
