mothers of javelin throw winners at olympic 2024 show love across borders
Neeraj Chopra of India and Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan are javelin throw rivals. On this day, the two competitors locked horns at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Just as their nations often do not enjoy the best relations, their mothers proved there is love sans borders.
What Happened at the Olympics
Arshad Nadeem captured the gold with a very long-distance throw: 92.97 meters! It was a new record. Neeraj Chopra took silver with 89.45 meters. Both did very well.
The Moms Speak with Love
After the contest, Neeraj’s mother Saroj Devi was very graceful. She said Arshad is like her son too. She said she was happy that he won gold, despite beating her son.
Then, Arshad’s mother used the same words for Neeraj. She told a TV channel: “Neeraj is also like my son. He is Nadeem’s friend and brother.” She went on to add that she prayed for Neeraj to do well!
Why This Is Special
It is not every day that you get to see people from India and Pakistan being this cordial. The two countries agree on very few things most of the time. But these moms proved that a mother’s love indeed is more powerful than any problems between the nations.
The Athletes Are Friends Too.
Neeraj and Arshad share good friendship when they are not competitors. They hold a great deal of respect for one another. Once, Neeraj had even helped Arshad. This friendship makes the words of their moms special.
A Lesson for All
The gesture these moms did for one another shows us a very significant lesson. It tells us that we are able to be happy over others even if they outclass us in any competition. Further, it shows how two people of two different countries can be as concerned as family members.
