The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has Stirred discussions in Pakistan by urging the Government to implement an 18 Percent General Sales Tax (GST) on Petrol. This Demand reported by News marks a Significant move Aimed at Enhancing the Country’s tax Revenue.
In addition to the GST on Petrol the IMF has called for the Cessation of Sales tax Exemptions on all items including Petroleum Products. The Proposed introduction of a Rs 60 levy on Petroleum Products is also Part of the IMF’s Recommendations to Bolster tax income.
This Latest Demand from the IMF follows Earlier Suggestions made to the Pakistani Government Regarding the implementation of an 18 Percent GST on various essential Commodities including Food, Medicine and Stationery.
