Key sections of the motorway have been closed by Motorway Police because of dense fog in certain areas which has affected transport in Punjab province on Wednesday. The Motorways Police spokesman said that M-2 and M-3 motorways have been closed between Lahore Hiran Minar and Lahore Jaranwala due to zero visibility.
The announcement was made said while environmental issues in the region get worse, smog levels increase in several cities of Punjab during winter season, the police have urged drivers to use extra precautions while on the road especially during night when they are advised to travel during the day and use fog lamps at night. The restrictions on visibility have brought a lot of inconvenience to any commuter and most of the provincial districts have exceedingly poor line of sight.
This latest development has come at a time when Punjab faced some of the worst levels of pollution in November and smog lead to a lot of health implications and interference with normal life.
