Dubai, which is famous for its travel, business, bustling highways and vibrant airport, faced unprecedented challenges on Wednesday. Nonstop heavy rains caused tension across the city. The usually dry desert landscape was inundated with up to 254 millimeters of rainfall in just one day, equivalent to about two years’ worth of rain. 

The aftermath of the downpour was evident on the city’s highways, where traffic came to a standstill as massive tailbacks stretched along six-lane expressways. Tragically, the flooding claimed a life as a 70-year-old man was swept away in his car in Ras Al-Khaimah, one of the emirates of the UAE.

Dubai Airport which is the world’s busiest airport for international traffic also faces lots of trouble because of rains.  Officials of Dubai asked passengers to avoid unnecessary Travel, with flights delayed, canceled, or diverted. Emirates, the flagship airline, had to cancel all check-ins as staff and passengers struggled to navigate flooded access roads and disrupted metro services. People share a lot of videos of rain and flood on social media. 

The Dubai airport was a mess. There were lots of people waiting in long lines for taxis and feeling annoyed. The storm caused problems not just in Dubai, but also in nearby places like Bahrain. In Bahrain flights were delayed and canceled.

The severity of the storms started the Discussions about the role of Climate Change. Climatologist Friederike Otto talked about the high likelihood that global warming exacerbated the extreme weather events. This rain was intense and something like this never happened in the history of Dubai rain. This Rainfall was reported as the highest on record since Data Collection start recording in 1949. This shows the unprecedented nature of the Situation.
