Peace in Afghanistan top priority, says PM Khan
Speaking at the two-day seminar between Pakistan and Afghanistan to increase bilateral trade and engage the business community from both sides in Islamabad on Monday, PM Imran Khan said that Pakistan is on the side of peace regardless of whoever comes into government in Afghanistan.
He said that Pakistan stands with the people of Afghanistan and will continue to work towards ensuring that the country remains peaceful and Afghans can leave this conflict behind.
“After Afghanistan, Pakistan has suffered the most due to the conflict,” he said that we can all learn from the past and make sure we don’t repeat such mistakes ever again.
“What history has shown us is that foreign interference has never been successful in Afghanistan; the people need to make their own decisions. Pakistan will work with the Afghanistan government and will keep the relationship strong,” he added.
A 17-member Afghan parliamentary delegation was also invited to the moot which was led by Speaker of Wolsey Jirga Mr Rahmani.
The seminar, titled Pakistan-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Forum 2020 discussed in detail at length the potential between the two neighbours to increase bilateral trade and cooperation.
The seminar also aims to reduce the miscommunication between the two countries and move towards a trade-oriented relationship.
The seminar is unique and historic keeping in view the government’s vibrant policies aimed at promoting regional connectivity and creating an environment of shared development and prosperity, the organisers of the event said in a press release.
Pakistan, despite its tensions on the eastern border, has allowed Afghanistan to send goods to India through its land routes under the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement.
Pakistan has said that it will continue to support Afghanistan peace regardless of whoever comes into power.
