A Persian leopard also known as phulang has been spotted at the Nani Mandir in Hinglaj a town located in the Lasbela District of Balochistan Province. This Sighting Occurred within the Hingol National Park a Significant Conservation area along the Balochistan Coast.

The Rare Leopard was observed by a Pilgrim Visiting the Temple inside the National Park. The Sighting is Significant as the Persian Leopard is listed as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature IUCN. These Big Cats are a Panther Sub Species Native to Several Regions including Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and the Caucasus.

According to Muhammad Moazzam Khan an Adviser with the World Wide Fund for Nature WWF the Persian Leopard has Historically been found in many Parts of Balochistan particularly in the Coastal Regions. However they are Rarely seen due to their Endangered Status and Elusive nature. The Sighting at Hingol National Park Underscores the importance of Preserving these Natural Habitats which Serve as Vital Sanctuaries for Endangered Species like the Persian Leopard.

The Presence of Persian leopards in Balochistan has been Noted Before. In May 2021 a Pair of Persian Leopards were Discovered in Hazarganji Chiltan National Park in Balochistan’s Mastung District. These Sightings are Encouraging for Conservation Efforts indicating that these Majestic Creatures still Roam the Province’s Protected areas.
