samsung overtakes apple as top phone maker
In the latest phone race, Apple has taken a bit of a stumble. New data shows that in the first part of 2024, Apple’s smartphone sales dropped by about 10%. This happened because other companies making Android phones are really pushing to be number one. Samsung won top position over the iphone.
As everyone knows, the iPhone is very popular with youth and people love to buy new models for its features, especially camera quality. But compared to iPhone more Smartphones were sold Worldwide during this time which is up by nearly 8%. Samsung, who is another big and famous phone maker, grabbed the top spot from Apple, with about 21% of the market. Apple slipped to second place, holding around 17%.
Part of Samsung’s success came from their new Galaxy S24 series, which sold over 60 million units in just a few weeks. That’s an 8% increase compared to their last series.

Meanwhile, Apple shipped around 50 million iPhones during this time, down from over 55 million the year before. This Decline was measured in different countries including China. In China Apple’s sales dropped by 2.1%. Some Chinese companies and government offices are limiting the use of Apple products, similar to how the United States restricts certain Chinese apps.After all this loss Apple is gearing up for its big Worldwide Developers Conference in June. There, they’ll talk about updates to the software that runs iPhones, iPads and other Apple Gadgets. Investors are particularly interested in hearing about any advancements in artificial intelligence, an area Apple hasn’t focused on much yet.

Earlier this year, Apple lost its Title as the world’s most valuable Company to Microsoft. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster road for Apple lately. But they’re still in the race and looking to make a comeback. Samsung and Apple have tough competition. Now we will wait for new phone models, their features, sales and popularity.
