Five Rockets were Fired from Iraq toward a U.S. Military base in Syria the first such Attack Since early February. This Attack came after a Pause in assaults by Iranian backed Groups in Iraq against U.S. Troops. The Rockets were Aimed at a Coalition base in Rumalyn, Syria but no U.S. Personnel were Hurt.

This Event followed the Return of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani from a Visit to the United States where he met with President Joe Biden at the White House. The Day after his Return a Post on a Telegram Group affiliated with Kataib Hezbollah an Iran backed Group indicated that Armed Factions in Iraq had Decided to Resume Attacks after a three-month Break. They had Paused Attacks hoping for Progress in talks to End the U.S. led Military Presence in Iraq but were not Satisfied with the Outcomes.

Another Telegram Group Close to Kataib Hezbollah Sabreen News noted that there was no Official Statement by the Iran-backed Faction Regarding the attack. A U.S Official Speaking anonymously described the Rocket launch as a Failed Attack but it wasn’t clear if the Rockets Missed the Base or were intercepted. After the Rocket attack an Aircraft from the U.S led Coalition in Iraq and Syria Struck the Launcher. Security Sources in Iraq said the Launcher was a Small truck Parked in Zummar a town on the Iraq-Syria Border.

An Iraqi Army Officer Explained that the Truck with the Rocket Launcher had been Seized for investigation Suggesting it was Destroyed by the Coalition’s Airstrike. The Iraqi Security Media Cell Responsible for sharing Security information Stated that Iraqi Forces Launched a Wide Ranging Search and inspection Operation near the Syrian Border to find those Responsible for the Attack.

This Attack came after a Major Blast at a Military base in Iraq Earlier that Week Killing a Member of an Iraqi Security force that includes Iran Backed Groups. The Cause of the Blast was under investigation but the Force’s Commander Suggested it was an Attack despite no Warplanes being Spotted in the Area at the Time.
