Tropical Storm Idalia came to visit the Carolinas with a lot of rain after causing destruction in Florida. People were worried that it might bring big floods, but the Carolinas were mostly okay because they got ready for it.

Before going to the Carolinas, Idalia went to Florida and made a big mess and caused huge destruction. It started as a strong hurricane with strong winds and it hit Florida’s Gulf Coast really hard. It broke things and knocked down trees, and the power went out. Some people got stuck because of the flooding. Luckily, not too many people got hurt or lost their lives which is good news.

One thing that was really scary about Idalia was the storm surge. It’s like a big wave of water that can be really dangerous. But, luckily, nobody died because of it.

After leaving Florida Idalia went to the Atlantic Ocean. It left behind a lot of rain in the Carolinas, up to 10 inches in some places. People were worried about flash floods and disrtruction. But most of the time, it didn’t happen.

In a town in North Carolina called Whiteville, some businesses got flooded, and that was sad. In South Carolina, the emergency people started to stop working because the storm was going away.

Florida’s Big Bend coast had a lot of damage. Houses and boat docks got wrecked and it cost a lot of money to fix them. The government said it might be around $9.36 billion. It will take time to rebuild everything.

President Joe Biden said it was a big disaster and he wanted to help. The people from FEMA came to help too, to make things better.
