A historic rally has been held in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad in support of former Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan. Thousands of Imran Khan’s supporters gathered in the streets, demanding the government to release Ex-Pm Imran Khan from the charges that are considered as politically motivated by his supporters.  

On September 8, 2024, thousands of supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan gathered to demand the release of Imran Khan from prison. Imran Khan, who is the leader of the party PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) party, has been imprisoned since August 2023, he was arrested from inside the High Court in Islamabad by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) based on charges of corruption in connection with the AL-Qadir Trust, owned by him and his wife Bushra Bibi. His supporters claim that these charges are completely politically motivated. He is in prison for a year, hence his supporters have planned a rally in supporting him.

The massive rally was organized by PTI as their first significant show of strength. Those protesters marched towards the capital to showcase the present government their brawn by going against the securities, roadblocks, and roadblocks. All the supporters were holding their party’s flag and placards which are against the government & in support of Ex-PM Imran Khan. They togetherly chanted the slogans and filled the air with their rage. During the rally’s opening speech Hammad Azhar, a close associate of Imran Khan said,

“We will not rest until Khan is released from jail”

An important leader and a lawyer from PTI, Salman Akram Raja said,

He is the only person who can save Pakistan from the clutches of corrupt and incompetent politicians”.

The Islamabad administration thought they had set up barriers, using containers and riot police to prevent the protesters from entering the city but they weren’t able to stop the loyal supporters of Imran Khan.  The protest highlights ongoing tensions and dissatisfaction with the political establishment against the ex-PM Imran Khan.
