Indian Spies Expelled from Australia, Allegedly Stealing Defense Secrets Report Points to Indian Operatives

In 2021 Australian intelligence found a Group of Foreign Spies in the Country who were trying to Steal Defense Secrets and Keep an Eye on expats living in Australia. The Spies were Kicked out but Officials didn’t say where they were from.

Recently the Australian Broadcasting Corporation ABC Reported that these Spies were from India. This News is Awkward for Australia because it has been Working Closely with India on Security and Defense issues Especially as Part of the Quad Security Partnership which also includes the United States and Japan.

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and other top Officials didn’t Comment much on these Reports. They avoided Questions about whether Indian Spies had been Caught and Expelled. Albanese said he wouldn’t talk about intelligence Matters and Foreign Minister Penny Wong Mentioned that Australia has Laws to Deal with Foreign interference.

Despite the Allegations Australia has been Building a Good Relationship with India. Last year Albanese met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Calling him the Boss at a Big event with Indian Australians. However these New Claims could make things Complicated.

This News also Comes at a time when India is under Inspection for other Reasons. Recently Relations between India and Canada went Bad when Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Indian intelligence might be involved in the Killing of a Sikh Separatist on Canadian Soil. India Called those Claims Ridiculous but they have caused Tension.

Australia’s top intelligence Officer Mike Burgess said the Spies were trying to get very Important information about Australia’s Defense and even asked a Public Servant for Details about Security at a Major Airport. So far the Indian High Commission hasn’t Responded to these Reports leaving a lot of Questions Unanswered.
