The person in charge of immigration in Australia, Clare O’Neil, says these changes are part of their plan to fix the immigration system. They want to make sure that people who come to Australia to study are really coming to learn, not just to work. They are going to introduce a new test to check if students are genuine about studying. They will also put stricter rules on some visitor visas to stop people from staying longer than they should.
Last year the Australian government changed some rules that had been relaxed because of COVID-19. They did this to reduce the number of people coming into the country. They were worried that too many people coming in could cause problems.
